Hayley Miller shares her beauty picks
In her career that spans nearly two decades, Leo award winning makeup artist Hayley Miller has become a very well known face behind the scenes in the Vancouver film industry. Hayley has added her talent to magazines editorials, television shows, movies, runways in addition to her work as a bridal makeup specialist.
Hayley is particularly passionate about working with eco-friendly cosmetic products including organic cotton pads, bamboo make-up brushes, organic skincare and organic make-up.

We wanted to end this week with Ai Nagasawa of Makeup by Ai‘s top three beauty picks. Ai is a freelance make up and hair artist based in Vancouver. She has been in the industry for over 12 years including nine years with MAC as a makeup pro. Thank you for being a part of our beauty column Ai!
Here are Ai’s fave things!
MAC Paint in the color “untitled”: One of my must have item in my kit is MAC paint in “untitled”. It is a silicone based creamy eye shadow that has a powder finish. It is completely waterproof and prevents creasing of the eye shadow. I love to use this product as a primer on the lids before I do any sort of make up application on the eyes. It comes in a variety of colors so you can wear it alone or use it as a base for your powder shadows. This product truly allows for long all day wear for your shadows!! Perfect for brides.
Color Science Pro Pressed Mineral Foundation compact: This foundation is absolutely amazing!! It offers light to full coverage (depending on how you apply it) to the skin and feels weightless and non drying. It gives the skin a flawless finish without the look of wearing any powder on the skin. Truly magical! There are many mineral products out there but this one is by far the best I have ever used.
Beauty Blender egg shaped sponge: This sponge is an absolute must have if you are a make up artist. It is such a great tool to use when applying foundation and concealer. The tip is great for the hard to reach corners and the curved base is excellent for larger areas of the face. The suede texture is very soft and comfortable when applying make up. It is also latex free and odor free.

Margaret Lai Makeup & Hair shares her top beauty pick

We are so happy to welcome Margaret Lai as our beauty expert this week. Margaret is a Vancouver based makeup artist and hair stylist. She was trained at Blanche Macdonald School of Design and has years of experience in film, TV, fashion and of course bridal hair and makeup.

My pick is Atomy BB Cream. Some people say its like a tinted moisturizer, or primer. Others have called it a “beauty balm”. BB cream is a new craze in most Asian cosmetic and skin care lines that gives the “flawless” complexion look. Applied over moisturizer it is undetected (unlike most foundations), and covers up age spots and acne scars. The finish is natural and satin. The one shade oxidizes to match most fair skin tones (however, I do wish they would produce more shades). When worn on the skin, it works to improve skin tone, provides SPF 30 and can replace foundation! I love that one product can have so many functions. Atomy is a natural skin care line from Korea. The BB cream is like silk in a tube, and without fragrance- great for sensitive skin. This is a product I personally use on a daily basis to protect my skin and give me a clean complexion. I just love it!!

As we continue our feature on Vancouver’s make-up artists and their beauty picks, we wanted to share with you Melanie Tremblay’s Must Have Product. Melanie is the owner and principle stylist at Mink Make-up and Hair. Mink’s studio is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver but Melanie and her team of stylists are able to do both mobile make-up and hair services. I love Make Up For Ever and MAC’s Face and Body Foundation. The brands have very similar formulas of this glowing, natural-looking foundation but have shade variations so it’s easy to find at match to any skin tone. This is my go-to foundation for anyone who wants a light to medium finish that lets the beautiful texture of skin shine through. Its gentle water base makes it ideal for anyone who struggles with breakouts (it won’t cause more!) and it’s not drying at all so great for someone with flaky or aging skin. It doesn’t sink into pores, accentuate lines, or become cakey in any way. I have yet to find a coverage product I love as much…okay, well maybe Make Up For Ever’s Full Cover Concealer comes close.

I love this foundation for everyday wear! It gives a beautiful glow and provides a seamless look for the whole day! It feels extremely light on your skin and has a silky hydrating texture that helps minimize the appearance of pores. It also build’s nicely to achieve perfect coverage. I apply it right after my facial moisturizer in order to allow my skin to absorb it better which, in turn, allows it to last longer. Best of all, there is a colour for all skin shades!

This toner is one of my “must haves” in both my professional and personal kit. For flawless makeup we need to start with good skin preparation! I was asked by one of my clients, “If you were stranded on a deserted Island and you could only bring with you one makeup product, which one would it be?” I responded, “MASCARA!” It has amazing power to enhance your look even if it’s the only thing you are wearing. Aurora’s Beauty Picks!

This month we are excited to Welcome some of our favorite wedding make-up pros to share their favorite beauty products with you. We thought it would be fun to start off by sharing some of our favorite products with you before calling in the true experts. Here are some of my go to products:
Mascara: Diorshow by Dior $28.00 (Sephora). Lots of thickening and lengthening but no smudging.
Lipstick/Gloss: Just Bitten Lipstain by Revlon in Passion Around $8.00 (Drug Stores). I’m too busy to re apply every hour and this is my solution. Lasts about three to four hours before you need to re apply. And it doesn’t dry out your lips like some of those long wear lip glosses do. A great lipstick to have on your wedding day!
Blush/Highlighter: Beauty Powder in Shell Pearl from MAC. $25.00
Long story with this one: I had a love affair with the MAC Limited Edition Barbie highlighter blush called Pearl Blossom and one horrific day it got confiscated at the airport because , and I quote, “Swabbed positive for explosives.” I was devastated. But the security lady eyeing my compact looked pretty happy about it. I was heartbroken until I met Liberty London Limited Edition in Shell Pearl which has a similar Pink-peach shimmer look.
The moral of this story is limited edition makeup gives me anxiety!! And…buy two!
Foundation: Teinte Miracle by Lancome with SPF 15 $38.00 (Lancome counters). Liquid Makeup with medium coverage. This lasts all day on me and doesn’t look caked on. Natural finish, which I love.
Under Your Makeup? I swear by Olay Sensitive Skin All day moisturizer with SPF 15. It has a light lotion feel I put it on right before my foundation to make it sit more evenly. I have very sensitive skin, as far as cleansers and moisturizers go, so I rejoiced when a friend recommended this in college. I still use it everyday!
