Dora + James’s sumptuous Hotel Vancouver wedding

Wedding Management by Aurora Buchanan | Wedding Photography by Jasalyn Thorne Photography

Dora and James are a young, energetic couple. When I first met them I was struck by how obviously in love they were, and they both had a playful nature about them that I loved.

They started their wedding with a tea ceremony with jasmine tea, and guests were treated to beautiful music from a harp musician. As you can see from the photos, the ceremony decor by Flowerz was absolutely stunning – Evan at Flowerz created a beautiful and eye-catching display.

Dora and James like to have a good time and the party aspect was a big factor for them on their wedding day. They wanted to ensure the day was fun and the dance party was epic (which it was :) ) Their amazing monogrammed cake by Anna Elizabeth Cakes also drew everyone’s attention.

James’s sister is a country singer who had flown up from Nashville for the big day. She performed a fantastic song after dinner. Later that night, Collective You opened up their photobooth, which was a huge hit with the guests – there was a line-up all night! :)

Dora has a great eye for fashion and she had three dress changes. Each one was fabulous! She wore a traditional white wedding dress, a red Chinese dress, and a gorgeous sparkly evening dress for dancing. All three dresses looked amazing.

It was wonderful to share in this couple’s beautiful day and I am so pleased I was able to help them create the wedding of their dreams.

With love,

Aurora xoxo

Courtney + Chris’ Hotel Vancouver Wedding

These high school sweethearts were married on May 18th 2013 at the impressive St. Andrew’s Wesleys Church and celebrated with an intimate reception at the opulent Fairmount Hotel Vancouver.

When we began the planning process, Courtney let me know she wanted a ‘wow factor’ for her wedding and so we hit the ground running! We enlisted Upright Decor and Garden Party Flowers  to help make this happen. Because Courtney and Chris were living in Fort McMurray during the whole planning process, we skyped and emailed but she didn’t see anything in person until the big day arrived. I have many fond memories of working with Courtney and her amazing Mom Pat over skype as we created the perfect wedding celebration.

Once the big day arrived I could hardly wait to see Courtney’s reaction to all our hard work. After the set up was complete, I snuck her down to the ballroom so she could see the room before anyone else did. John Bello Photography was able to capture her excitement perfectly (thank you John for your beautiful photos in this post!).

At St. Andrews Wesley, the long impressive aisle was lined with white pillars filled with branches and draped in orchids and glittering crystals. At the altar sat two large arrangements of soft pinks, cream and lavender floral.

The reception was held in the intimate Vancouver Island Room. Upright Decor draped floor to ceiling white sheers drapes to create a dramatic backdrop for the head-table. Crystal candelabras glittered in the candlelight with lush peonies, roses and hydrangea. Anna Elizabeth Cakes created Courtney’s dream cake incorporating our ombre roses wish and red velvet taste! Courtney prepared a touching slideshow to surprise her Father during the the Father Daughter Dance, we succeeded in surprising him and it was a special moment. Guests enjoyed the delicious food and cocktails and later headed onto the white dance floor to show of their moves!

Courtney and Chris are surrounded by great people and lots of love. All the guests were bright eyed and bushy tailed – ready to celebrate them!

It was a night to remember.

Aileen + Richard

Holy Rosary Catherderal Wedding ceremonyYou may remember Aileen and Richard from my post about their engagement last year. Throughout the planning experience we bonded over the love of truly great coffee and calendar apps (mainly because they were insanely busy during the course of our wedding planning so it took an epic calendar app to coordinate our meetings). I always looked forward to our meetings, knowing we would have lots of laughs and get a lot of things crossed off our list. I still have moments every once in a while when I catch myself looking forward to our next meeting before I remember that the wedding planning is over.

And what a wedding it was! Aileen and Richard were married at the Holy Rosary Cathedral (one of my personal faves) last fall with a traditional Filipino Catholic Service. Their wedding party was by far the largest I have had to date-a point we laughed about a lot. Just goes to prove how special they are, they are surrounded by so much love. A grand reception followed at the opulent Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The ballroom was lavishly decorated by Upright Decor and florals galore by Suzane of Granville Island Florist. As guests were wined and dinned they were treated to a performance by traditional Filipino dancers and then a surprise flash mob dance that got everyone one up and dancing for the rest of the night. Can you guess the song?

I hope you enjoy taking a peek at their wedding as much as I loved planning it for them. Thank you Melia of Lucida Photography for the breathtaking photos once again and to Jayna Marie for her beautiful work with hair and make up.
