Outdoor Wedding Venues Vancouver and Whistler

Outdoor weddings are becoming more popular as we find ways to celebrate during a time of our lives that require extra precaution towards keeping ourselves and our loved ones safe. I thought it would be helpful for those in the starting stages of planning their wedding to provide a list of our favourite outdoor venues, most of which allow tenting to protect us from the West Coast elements!

UBC Botanical Gardens Contemporary Lawn + Arbour

Photographs by Shari + Mike

UBC Botanical Garden’s Contemporary Lawn and Arbour has been one of our top choices for an outdoor wedding in Vancouver since Mari Toni and Tal’s wedding in the Summer of 2014.

The space boasts an amazing 110’ Arbour covered in climbing greens that is often used as the stunning location for a long table dinner or a ceremony. Right next door to the Arbour is the Contemporary Lawn. This can be used for cocktail hour, games, dinner, or dancing and can be tented. Be sure to ask the team at UBC Botanical Gardens about their preferred tenting company!

In addition to these two spaces, the Amphitheatre is an amazing space for a ceremony and can be integrated with the other spaces to create a seamless flow between the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing!

 Stanley Park Pavilion

Photographs by Melia Lucida Photography

Stanley Park Pavilion is a stunning venue located just inside Stanley Park in Vancouver. Generally recognized for its classic tearoom and ballroom, you can also rent out the Bar + Grill in conjunction with the large lawn just off the patio!

Nestled amongst the coniferous trees of the park, an intimate reception will transport your guests to a magical forest just a few steps away from Vancouver’s downtown core. With catering by Stanley Park Pavilion, the team will also help you with shuttles to downtown at the end of the night and, with permission from the City of Vancouver, this space can be tented!

Here are a few more photos from a wedding we planned in August 2019 for Penny and Will!

Riverland’s Equestrian Centre (Pemberton)

Photographs by Blush Photography

As seen in Wedluxe

I was introduced to this venue by a couple I worked with for their 2019 wedding and fell in love. Nina and Martin, the couple, wanted to host their wedding reception at a place that they had a personal connection with, and, as they boarded their beloved horse here, Riverlands was it hands down!

For Nina and Martin’s wedding, we set up a large reception tent for dinner and dancing that also housed two bars, a portrait station, and a lounge. We also had two tents from Wild Havens Popup Tents – one for a kids tent and the other a tasting tent for Pemberton Distillery – and a few tents for catering and storage. Needless to say, the space is very flexible so that you can see your dream wedding become a reality! In addition to this, the team at Riverland’s is so accommodating and we cannot recommend them more.

Fairmont Chateau Whistler

Mountainview Lawn and Woodland’s Terrace

Another amazing venue along the Sea to Sky Corridor is the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Outside the hotels stunning ballrooms, the Woodland’s Rooftop Terrace is a flexible space that can host an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour and a tented reception while boosting incredible views of the mountains surrounding Whistler Village. The best part (other than the views)? The tent is included with the venue!

Another hidden gem that the Fairmont Chateau has to offer is their Mountainview Lawn. This location, just minutes away from the hotel, has a three-tiered space that is an amazing space to utilize for an event and feels like an oasis from Whistler Village surrounded by dense evergreens. Many couples decide to tie the knot here on the upper-most lawn that has unbeatable mountain views – so West Coast!

Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel | The Chairman’s Terrace

Photographs by Blush Photography

Just around the corner on the terrace of the Chairman’s Suite at the Pacific Rim Hotel, there is a secret location for an intimate ceremony for those in love with a city backdrop for their ‘I Do’s.’

With an amazing events team, the Pac Rim can make your dreams come true with amazing venues to host your wedding to delicious food and beverage. The best part? Hard to put your finger on one thing, but spending the night in this stunning suite must be up there!

Hart House Restaurant

Photographs by Hera Studios

Hart House is a great selection for an outdoor tented wedding. They are located in a park with lots of greenery, and the lake just nearby. It’s a perfect place for photos, and a beautiful backdrop. Not only do they have a wonderful location, but their food and service are sure to please your guests. With Hart House, you have the perfect combination of natural beauty and sophistication.

Brock House Restaurant

Photographs by Walker Studios

If you want an oceanfront venue, you cannot beat Brock House on Jericho Beach in Vancouver! Most couples host their ceremonies on the grass facing the water and views of the North Shore Mountains and then move to the tent (included in the rental) for dinner. With the tent, tables, chairs, tableware, and catering organized by the team at Brock House, it is a great option for those looking for a stunning ‘one stop’ venue to make the planning process a bit simpler!

Hycroft Manor

Photographs by Lucida Photography

Hycroft is a classic venue located just in Kerrisdale off of Granville and 16th Avenue. Overlooking the mountains, this venue is so close to the bustling of the city but you’d never know it as you are transported to Europe when you enter the property.

Hycroft does not allow tenting on their property, but most couples use the terrace on the north side of the building for their ceremony and to host a dinner amongst the grand Corinthian pillars and classical garden. For those looking for a timeless elegance, Hycroft is perfect.

There are so many amazing outdoor venues that all have a different aesthetic, from rustic to classic, we hope that this list helps you to find your perfect wedding venue!

Lauren + Chris’ Fairmont Pacific Rim wedding

Wedding Planning by Alicia Keats | Wedding Photography by Jonetsu

Lauren and Chris really wanted the “WOW!” factor with their wedding; they wanted all their guests to have an amazing time and be talking about their wedding for years to come. I loved working with Lauren and it was so much fun planning her wedding weekend. Lauren is the ultimate host and throws the best parties with the most thoughtful details and her own wedding was no exception. Dreaming up her wedding invitations was one of the many highlights for me.  She is so detailed and thoughtful and was open to creative ways of bringing her vision to life.

There are so many details that I loved from Lauren’s wedding, starting with her wedding invitations. Lauren shared with me in our first meeting that she loves giving gift baskets, she also shared with me her and Chris’ love of champagne. We talked about the invite maybe being in a box and that got my imagination going! We worked with Love by Phoebe to create Lauren’s custom wedding invitations which included a black velvet, gold embossed box, a plexi glass invitation and a mini bottle of rose Moet. I can’t tell you how hard it was to find the Moet!

The couple held a welcome party the day before their wedding, as another opportunity to be able to visit with their guests. I love welcome events, the wedding day flies by so fast and this way, our couples have more chances to spend more time with their guests. Held on the roof top terrace of the Chairman’s Suite at Pacific Rim, everyone enjoyed martinis from the bar, accompanied by mezze, risotto, and maki and nigiri sushi stations.

The wedding ceremony took place at the in the Emerald Ballroom of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in downtown Vancouver. After the ceremony, guests moved to the cocktail hour where they were offered canapés and Rosé Moet topped with cotton candy. Evan from Koncept did an amazing job of the ceremony flowers, and Loungeworks created a fantastic area for guests to chat and enjoy the Grey Goose vodka on offer.

It was really important to Lauren and Chris that they had a great party atmosphere at their wedding, as the couple love to have a good time. The couple also included lots of lovely touches showing their love for their family and friends, including he first dance which was sung by the groom’s brother, and the father-daughter dance was sung by another of the groomsmen.

After a sumptuous dinner and dancing,  the guests were surprised by a sparkler champagne parade and escorted to the after party to dance until the early morning. Guests enjoyed bottle service, a photobooth, candy table, and cupcakes by Fringe and Flourish, doughnuts and late night snacks. One of my favorite details was our washroom make-up attendants. I was watching an awards show a few months before the wedding and mentioned to Lauren how great it would be to be at a wedding and get touched up, kinda like a bathroom amenities basket (which we love) but even better. Lauren was totally on board. It was a huge hit.

Another fun detail was their wedding favors. Lauren and Chris’ favorite champagne is Ace of Spades and we knew we wanted to incorporate this somehow. Working with Madeira Candles, custom candles were created for the guests using recycled Ace of Spade bottles.

The following morning, Lauren and Chris held a “Rosé all day” party at their home, including personalized cookies by Letterpress Bakery. It was the perfect way to end the weekend.

I had so much fun writing this post and remembering how much fun I had working with Lauren. I wish we could do it again!

Carita + Vincent’s Fairmont Pacific Rim Wedding

WEDDING PLANNING BY ALICIA KEATS | WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY JONETSU

Featured by WedLuxe Magazine, Carita and Vincent’s wedding at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel was a stunning affair that truly reflected their personalities. Using our couples love for the lush blue-greens of the Pacific Northwest as the base for their fun colour palette (and a pair of Valentino Rockstuds), we got to work to make their vision a reality.

To keep guests engaged and excited, Carita and Vincent wanted each part of the wedding to be unique and to have its own ‘feel.’ Evan and the Koncept team and Suzane at Granville Island quickly embraced this idea and created three distinctive spaces while simultaneously making them feel cohesive.

When guests arrived for the wedding, they were ushered into the foyer through a flower tunnel created by Granville Island Florists and Koncept. With bright pink, purple, and white blooms cascading from the ceiling, guests were transported to the wisteria tunnel at Kawachi Fuji Gardens in Japan, the location that Vincent initially wanted to propose (he ended up proposing at the beautiful Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area).

The ceremony, held in the Star Sapphire Ballroom at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, set the stage for the evening. Set with rose gold infinity chairs from Mohani, the room welcomed guests into a luxurious and warm atmosphere. The altar backdrop was constructed with custom gold three-dimensional triangles interspersed with hanging bunches of soft flowers and Edison lightbulbs, making an incredible aesthetic impact. To complete the look, lush flower arrangements of soft pink roses, white peonies, and pink ranunculus were tied neatly to the backs of the chairs next to the aisle.

The cocktail hour was characterized by bright pinks and fuchsias. We created lounge areas with purple modern sofas, bright blue chairs, gold geometric-inspired glass-top coffee tables, gold triangular candle holders, and lavish cheerful floral arrangements with purple hydrangeas, vivid pink roses and peonies, and ‘indigo spires.’ While taking in the change of scenery and music from SideOne, guests enjoyed ‘His and Hers’ Signature Cocktails while canapes such as Wild Mushroom Arancini with Truffle Aioli were passed.

During the cocktail hour, Carita changed into a traditional qungua embroidered with a dragon and phoenix pattern for the family tea ceremony. While the tea ceremony commenced and guests enjoyed cocktail hour, the ballroom was being reset for the main reception.

For the reception, the ballroom walls were lined with deep blue-green velvet drapes that not only enveloped the room with warmth but also allowed for the bright colours of the floral centrepieces, the cream-coloured satin tablecloths, and gold accents to pop. Each place setting was set with turquoise satin napkins, silverware, glassware, and custom cookies from A.Elizabeth Cakes – one with a picture of Fuji, their puppy, and the other with their names and wedding date. The geometric back drop used for the ceremony was moved to behind the head table made it the ‘piece de resistance.’ Juxtaposed against the dramatic colours used for the guest tables, we opted to use the soft colour pallet used for the ceremony for the flowers on the head table to create continuity throughout the event. Next to the head table was an incredible five-tier cake, also by Anna, that incorporated the geometric design elements of the wedding.

After an elaborate five-course meal ending with a Matcha Cake, Carita and Vincent enjoyed their first dance to the Beatles, ‘I Will,’ opening up the dance floor for the rest of the evening festivities.

You can also see their wedding video, by one of our favorites, Vincent + Theo, here.

On a personal note, it was a huge honor and privilege to work with Carita and Vincent and a huge hole was left in my heart after the planning was finished. It was not just the amount of time that we spent working together, it was also the friendship that was created. Carita is someone who pays attention to details, who really listens and stores little comments away for future reference. I had mentioned briefly that I am always cold and typically always have a blanket on me (even in the summer!) when I work from home, and suddenly the most thoughtful gift arrived at my office, a blanket, camouflaged as a scarf. This is just one example of how special and thoughtful Carita is. I feel so lucky to have met her and Vincnet and to have been a part of this special day.

A Pride + Prejudice Inspired Wedding at Fairmont Pacific Rim

Wedding Planning by Alicia Keats | Wedding Photography by Hera Photography.

From the second I spoke to Charing + Heston I wanted to work with them. We planned their wedding long distance as they were based in New York during the course of the wedding planning, so we had a lot of Skype dates and phone calls. Charing + Heston were inspired by a Pride and Prejudice editoritorial  I did and asked me to incorporate the styled shoot into the design of their wedding which was a lot of fun!

Charing + Heston began their day with a tea ceremony at the Bride’s family home in Richmond. After a few family photos were taken by Hera Studios and Charing changed into a white go wn, Pacific Harmony Limos picked up the couple, the wedding party, and the family and drove them to St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church in Vancouver for the marriage ceremony.

St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church was decorated with floral aisle markers and two large altar arrangements by The Flower Factory that combined soft pink hydrangea, garden roses, peach-toned ranunculus, and eucalyptus. Charing + Heston wanted to keep the décor minimal to draw attention to the importance of the marriage ceremony itself and its place in their faith. After the ceremony concluded with a couple hymns, guests made their way to the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel where the cocktail hour would begin.

The main reception was held in the main ballroom and used a soft pastel colour palette with touches of silver to conjure the romance of an English party from the 1800’s. The head table was set with low flower arrangements, light blue tapered candles, and an opulent white drapery as a backdrop. Guest tables were dressed in stunning light blue satin tablecloths, opulent centrepieces in stone vases, silver tea light holders, silver filigree charger plates, and cream napkins with a single stem of lavender tied neatly with a ribbon that was held together by a custom wax seal. The round menu fit perfectly into each charger plate and used calligraphy reminiscent of a handwritten love letter. Finishing off the look and helping the décor to feel fresh and modern, we used clear infinity chairs with silver cushions. In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Charing + Heston opted for a stunning light blue macaron tower provided by the Pacific Rim Hotel.

After a five-course dinner that was interspersed with speeches, Charing + Heston made their way onto the dance floor for their first dance as a married couple to ‘Lucky’ by Jason Mraz. After the first dance and parents dance finished, the couple was surprised by their guests with a flash mob and the party began!

Enjoy!

Tammy + Chris’ Pacific Rim Wedding Celebration

Wedding Planning by Alicia Keats | Wedding Photography by Melia of Lucida Photography

Tammy and Chris wanted their wedding to have a whimsical feel, with natural West Coast elements and be a celebration of the union of not only themselves through marriage, but of their families (including their pet lizard) too. Embracing these elements as inspiration, we used light décor elements and plenty of activities to create an evening that was authentically Tammy + Chris.

After getting ready at their family homes (thanks to Denise Elliott and her team), they arrived at St. Andrews Wesley Church in Downtown Vancouver. Other than the simple floral arrangements tied onto the pews with pink ribbons by Celsia Florist, the architecture of the church was left to evoke a certain transcendental air for the ceremonial portion of the day. Balancing this formal atmosphere was Tammy + Chris’s light energy as they smiled, laughed, and gave out high fives to celebrate the occasion in their own special way.  Concluding this portion of the day was a Unity Candle ritual that ceremonially tied the two families together, a truly special way to express the joining of Tammy + Chris through marriage and the devotion that they have towards their loved ones.

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel where they were greeted by sparkling wine and passed canapes as the Cocktail Hour commenced. Before guests entered the main ballroom for the dinner portion of the evening, they found their seats on a mirror seating plan that was inscribed in gold ink. The décor in the ballroom was kept light and airy with crisp white linen, gold chivari chairs, clear cylindrical vases with white floating candles, and an abundance of greenery dotted with blush and white roses. Behind the head table was a magnificent backdrop made of hanging greenery garlands set against a lush white drapery. This backdrop helped to make the head table more of a focal point for guests as their eyes were drawn to the couple and those in the wedding party – it also made for amazing photographs!

After a three-course dinner was served that included an amazing three-tier cake from A.Elizabeth Cakes, the dance floor opened up after the first dance. DJ Aimee kept the party going late into the evening and everyone of all ages celebrated the union of Tammy + Chris.

Enjoy!
